Define angular acceleration....

Define angular acceleration.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The time rate of change of angular velocity of rotating body.
It is denoted by `alpha` and it is a vector.
Unit of angular acceleration is radian/`"sec"^(2)` and its dimensional formula is `[M^(0)L^(0)T^(-2)]`
If axis of rotation is fixed, the direction of `vecomega` and `vecalpha` is also fixed. In this situation, angular acceleration is considered as scalar
`therefore alpha=(domega)/(dt)" but "omega=(d theta)/(dt)`,
`alpha=(d^(2)theta)/(dt^(2))`
