Two young men going in double ride over a bike along a straight road, one man sitting back fall down over the bike then velocity of bike increases or decreases ? Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Increases, because when the man sitting back falls down, mass decreases and momentum remains constant and so speed increases.

A man starts running along a straight road with uniform velocity observes that the rain is falling vertically downward. If he doubles his speed, he finds that the rain is coming at an angle theta to the vertical. The velocity of rain with respect to the ground is :

In the figure there is a long horizontal bridge over a river 75 m high from water surface. A strong man throws a stone in the parallel plane of the bridge. A observer in a car travelling on the bridge finds the stone going pass by the car while ascending and also while descending between two points on the road 30 m away. The car is travelling at a speed of 15 m/s. The stone is thrown from the bank of river just at the same level of water. What is the angle the velocity makes with the bridge when it goes past the car while ascending ?

A man walks on a straight road from his home to a market 2.5 km away with a speed of 5 km h^(-1). Finding the market closed, he instantly turns and walks back home with a speed of 7.5 km h^(-1). What is the (a) magnitude of average velocity, and (b) average speed of the man over the interval of time (i) 0 to 30 min, (ii) 0 to 50 min, (iii) 0 to 40 min ? [Note: You will appreciate from this exercise why it is better to define average speed as total path length divided by time, and not as magnitude of average velocity. You would not like to tell the tired man on his return home that his average speed was zero !]
