Two bodies are in equilibrium when suspended in water from the arms of a balance. The mass of one body is 28g and its density is 5.6g/c.c. If the mass of the other body is 36g, find its density d.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Weight of water displaced by first body = `(28)/(5.6)g`,
Weight of water displaced by second body = `(36)/(d)g`,
Apparent weight of first body = `(28-(28)/(5.6))g`
Apparent weight of second body = `(36-(36)/(d))g`
since bodies are in equilibrium
`(28-(28)/(5.6))g=(36-(36)/(d))g" "d=(36)/(13)~~2.8g//c c`.
