What is the living organisms made-up of? Why are they called structural and functional unit of life?

(1 ) Living organisms such as all plants and animals are made-up of specific types of cells.
(2) Cells form tissues and these further form organs and systems. The basic structural unit is therefore cell. Cell is also the smallest entity in the body.
(3) Each living cell performs different functions with the help of cell organelles located in them. Basic bodily functions such as nutrition, respiration, osmoregulation, excretion, etc. can be done by a single cell too. Therefore, cell becomes functional unit of the body.
