How do you distinguish between methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol?

Using iodine and alkali methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol can be distinguished. Only ethyl alcohol gives yellow precipitate of iodoform. Methyl alcohol does not form iodoform.
