Cnidarians exhibit two body forms, i.e. polyp and medusa. The sessile forms are called polyps, while the free swimming forms are called medusa. Some of the cnidarians exhibit alternation of generation in which one generation in polyp form is followed by the next generation in medusa form. This phenomenon is called metagenesis.
