The kinetic energy of an object of mass ...

The kinetic energy of an object of mass in moving with a velocity of `5ms^(-1)` is 25 J. What will be its kinetic energy when its velocity is doubled? What will be its kinetic energy when its velocity is increased three times?

The correct Answer is:
100 J; 225 J

Here, `E_(k)=25J, upsilon=5ms^(-1)`
`E_(k)=(1)/(2)mv^(2)`
`therefore E_(k)propv^(2)` (mass remains constant)
When the velocity is doubled, the kinetic energy.
`E_(k)=(2)^(2)xx` initial `E_(k)=4xx25J=100J`
When the velocity is increased three times, the kinetic energy.
`E_(k)=(3)^(2)xx` initial `E_(k)=9xx25J=225J`.
