Can kinetic energy be negative? Why?...

Can kinetic energy be negative? Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Kinetic energy cannot be negative.
`E_(k)=(1)/(2)mv^(2)`. The mass (m) of an object cannot be negative.
The velocity of an object can be negative. But the square of velocity `(v^(2))` cannot be negative.
As mass and the square of velocity can never be negative, the kinetic energy of an object cannot be negative.
