What is meant by unbalanced chemical equation ?

Chemical equation is written more concisely by using chemical formulae instead of words, then such equation is called unbalanced equation.
For example, `Mg + O_(2) to MgO`
In the above equation, mass and number of atoms are not same on both side. Hence, this is an unbalanced chemical equation. It is also called skeletal chemical equation for the burning of magnesium in air.
