The correct Answer is:
D

Animals use seasonal variations in light intensity and photoperiod to time various activities. Birds of colder areas of Northern Hemisphere begin their Southward migration as the day lengths begin to shorten. Reverse journey is undertaken with the increase in day length. Turkeys, ferrets adn starlings breed in response to lengthening to days while goat, sheep and deer breed in response to shortening of days. Rabbits and guinea pigs are day neutral. In temperature and subtropical areas, cold blooded or ectothermic animals undertake hibernation as the day length begins to shorten.

Diurnal and seasonal variations in the intensity and photoperiod of light are cues for

Mark the correct statements about major abiotic factors . I . Temperature on land varies seasonally, increase progressively from the equator towards the from plains to the mountain tops . II. Light is important in animals as they use the diurnal seasonal variations in light intensity and duration as cues for timing their forging, reproductive and migratory activities. III. Various characteristics of the soil such as soil composition, grain size and aggregation determine the percolation and water holding capacity of the soils . IV. The salt concentration is more than 5% in inland waters

A transparent glass plate of thickness 0.5 mm and refractive index 1.5 is placed infront of one of the slits in a double slit experiment. If the wavelength of light used is 6000 A^(@) , the ratio of maximum to minimum intensity in the interference pattern is 25/4. Then the ratio of light intensity transmitted to incident on thin transparent glass plate is

(a) State law of Malus. (b) Draw a graph showing the variation of intensity (I) of polarised light transmitted by an analyser with angle (theta) between polariser and analyser. (c ) What is the value of refractive index of a medium of polarising angle 60^(@) ?

Answer the following: (a) If one of two identical slits producing interference in Young's experiment is covered with glass so that the light intensity passing through it is reduced to 50%, find the ratio of the maximum and minimum intensity of the fringe in the interference pattern. (b) What kind of fringes do you expect to observe if white light is used instead of monochromatic light ?

In a YDSE using monochromatic visible light, the distance between the plate of slits and the screen is 1.7 m. At point P on the screen which is directly in front of the upper slit, maximum path is observed. Now, the screen is moved 50 cm closer to the plane of slits. Point P now lies between third and fouth minima above the central maxima and the intensity at P in one-fourth of the maxima intensity on the screen. ltbr. Find the wavelength of light if the separation of slits is 2 mm.

A capacitor is charged using an external battery with a resistance x in series. The dashed line showns the variation of In I with respect to time. If the resistance is changed to 2x, the new graph will be

(a) When an unpolarized light of intensity I_(0) is passed through a polaroid , what is the intensity of the linearly polarized light ? Does it depend on the orintation of the polaroid ? Explain your answer. (b) A plane polarized beam of light is passed through a polaroid . Show graphically the variation of the intensity of the transmitted light with angle of rotation of the polaroid in complete one rotation.

Read the following statements and select the correct option: (a) Many species of herbs and shrubs growing in forests are adapted to photosynthesise optimally under very low light conditions. (b) Many plants are dependent on sunlight to meet their photoperiodic requirement for flowering.

In Young's double-slit experiment, the intensity at a point P on the screen is half the maximum intensity in the interference pattern. If the wavelength of light used is lambda and d is the distance between the slits, the angular separation between point P and the center of the screen is
