(a) Why do welders wear special glass goggles or face masks with glass windows ?
(b) Why are ultraviolet rays used in LASIK eye surgery?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) Welders wear special glass goggles or face masks with glass windows to protect their eyes from large amount of ultraviolet rays produced by welding arcs because these are absorbed by glass goggles/masks.
(b) Due to its shorter wavelengths, ultraviolet radiations can be focussed into very narrow beams for high precision applications. Accordingly UV rays are used in LASIK eye surgery.
