Equal lengths of magnesium ribbons are taken in test tubes A and B. Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to test tube A, while acetic acid `(CH_(3)COOH)` is added to test tube B. Amount of concentration taken for both acids are same. In which test tube will the fizzing occur more vigorously and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The fizzing will be faster in test tube A because HCl is stronger acid then acetic acid.
`Mg+2HCl to^(Fast) MgCl_2+ H_2`
`Mg+2CH_3COOH to (CH_3COO)_2 Mg +H_2`
