Why is the use of a.c. voltage preferred over d.c. voltage ? Give two reasons.

Use of a.c. voltage is preferred over d.c. voltage on account of the following reasons.
(i) An a.c. generator is easy to operate and maintain. So we prefer to use a.c. voltage.
(ii) Using a transformer, voltage of a.c. supply may be suitably increased or decreased.
(iii) a.c. power may be transmitted over long distances without much loss of energy.
