Calculate the number of electrons constituting one coulomb of charge.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that one electron possesses a negative charge of `1.6 xx 10^(-19)C`
i.e., charge on 1 electron `= - 1.6 xx 10^(-19)C`
`{:(" Charge","","No. of electron"),(-1.6 xx 10^(-19)C,::," "1),(-1C, ::, " "(?)):}`
`:.` No. of electron constituting -1C of charge `= (-1C xx 1)/(-1.6 xx 10^(-19)C)`
`= 10/1.6 xx 10^(18) = 6.25 xx 10^(18)`
Thus, `6.25 xx 10^(18)` electron taken together constitute 1 coulomb charge.
In other words, the SI unit of electric charge coulomb (C) is equivalent to the charge contained in`6.25 xx 10^(8)` electrons.
