What is the role of the split rings in an electric motor ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The split rings act as a commutator and its function is to reverse the direction of the current flowing through the coil after every half rotation of the cell .
Due to reversing of the current , the direction of rotating couple (i.e., torque) remains unchanged and the coil continues to rotate in the same direction .
