Two coils of insulated copper wire are wound over a non - conducing cylinder as shown in figure 13.28. Coil 1 has larger number of turns .

(2) When key is closed or opened , the current in the coil 1 changes. Therefore the magnetic field linked with coil 2 changes and hence a current in induced in it . The direction of the induced current depend upon whether the magnetic field is increasing or decreasing with time .
(3) Electromgnetic induction :
It is process by which a changing magnetic field in a conductor induces current in another conductor .
(4) Coil 1 : Primary coil.
Coil 2 : Secondary coil .
