If the angular momentum of an electron is `vecj` then the magnitude of the magnetic moment will be

A

eJ2m

B

`(2m)/(eJ)`

C

`(eJ)/(2m)`

D

`(eJ)/m`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

The magnetic moment of an electron revolving in a circular orbit of radius r is `M = 1/2` …..(i)
and its angular momentum,
`J = I omega = mr^(2) xx v/r = mvr` ….(ii)
From (i) and (ii), we get,
`therefore` M/J = 1/2 (evr)/(mvr)=1/2 e/m implies M = (eJ)/(2m)`
