A person is driving a vehicle at uniform speed of `5 m s^(-1)` on a level curved track of radius 5m. The coefficient of static friction between tyres and road is 0.1. Will the person slip while taking the turn with the same speed ? Take `g=10 ms^(-2)`.
Choose the correct statement.

A

A person will slip if `v^(2) = 5ms^(-1)`

B

A person will slip if `v^(2) gt 5 ms^(-1)`

C

A person will slip if `v^(2) lt 5 ms^(-1)`

D

A person will not slip if `v^(2) gt 5 ms^(-1)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

`v_("max") = sqrt(mu rg)`
`v_("max") = sqrt(0.1 xx 5 xx 10) = sqrt(5)`
or `v_("max")^(2) = 5m^(2)//s^(2)`
`therefore` Persons or vehicle will slip if the velocity is more than `sqrt(5)m//s`
