A jet plane of wing span 20 m is travelling towards west at a speed of `400 m s^(-1)`. If the earth's total magnetic field is `4 xx 10^(-4)` T and the dip angle is `30^(@)`, at that place, the voltage difference developed across the ends of the wing is

A

1.6 V

B

3.2 V

C

0.8 V

D

6.4 V

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Given,
Speed (v) `= 400 ms^(-1)`
Magnetic field (B) `= 4xx10^(-4)T`
Dip angle `theta = 30^(@)`
We know that,
Voltage difference = Blv sin `theta`
`= 4xx10^(-4)xx20xx400xx sin 30^(@)`
`= 32000xx10^(-4)xx sin 30`
`= 32000xx10^(-4)xx(1)/(2)=1.6 V`
