Why does a metallic piece become very hot when it is surrounded by a coil carrying high frequency alternating current ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to flow of high frequency a.c. the magnetic flux linked with metallic piece changes rapidly and consequently a strong eddy current is induced in it. This strong current heats up the metallic piece on account of transformation of electrical energy into thermal.energy.

A metal rod is placed along the axis of a solenoid carrying a high-frequency alternating current. It is found that the rod gets heated. Explain why the rod gets heated .

Assertion: If the frequency of alternating current in an AC is circuit consisting of an inductance coil is increased then current gets decreased. Reason: The current is inversely proportional to frequency of alternating current.

A metal wire of linear mass density 10^(-1) is stretched with a tension of 100 N weight between two rigid supports 1 metre apart. The wire passes at its middle point between the poles of a permanent magnet, and it vibrates in resonance when carrying an alternating current of frequency n. The frequency n of the alternating source is :

A 10 ohm resistance, 5 mH coil and 10mu F capacitor are joined in series. When a suitable frequency alternating current source is joined to this combination, the circuit resonates. If the resistance is halved, the resonance frequency
