`P = V_(rms) I_(rms) cos phi`
`= V_(rms) I_(rms) cos ((pi )/(2))`
`:. P = 0`
`( :. ` For purely inductive ac = 0 circuit, `phi = ( pi )/(2) rad ` )
`P = V_(rms) I_(rms) cos phi`
`=V_(rms) I_(rms) cos (-(pi)/(2))`
`:. P = 0`
`( :.` For purely capacitive ac circuit, `phi = - ( pi )/(2) ` rad )
In above circuit, during increasing current conditions energy is drawn from the source and same amoutn of energy is given back to the source during decreasing current conditions. Hence there is no power loss and hence net power consumed in every cycle of ac is zero for purely inductive or for purely capacitive ac circuits.
