A capacitor is used in the primary circuit of an induction coil.

In case of induction coil, during its breaking , very large emf is induced which can cause sparking. Hence if capacitor is connected in its primary circuit then it can be charged ( to store eneergy ) and at the same time, sparking can be avoided.
