For one series A.C. circuit, its reactance is equal to its resistance. Then its power factor is ……….

A

1

B

`1/2`

C

`1/sqrt2`

D

The correct Answer is:
C

If `phi` is the phase difference between voltage and current in series A.C. circuit then we have :
tan `phi=(X_L-X_C)/R=1` (`because` Here `X_L-X_C=R`)
`therefore phi=45^@=pi/4` rad
Now , power factor `=cos phi =cos 45^@ =1/sqrt2`
