Dehydrohalogenation reaction or `beta-` elimination
Alkyl halides undergo elimination reactions when they are heated with alcohol potash. In an elimination reactions, the electro negative halogen atom is removed along with a hydrogen from `beta-`carbon atom to forin an alkene. since `beta-`hydrogen atom is involved in the elimination, the reaction is called `beta-` elimination reaction.
