Sex determination in birds -
The male has similar sex chromosomes ZZ, hence homogametic whereas female has dissimilar sex chromosomes ZW and is heterogametic.
There are two types of eggs (Z and W) and only one type of sperm carrying their chromosome respectively.
Fertilization of an egg with Z chromosome by a sperm with Z chromosome gives a zygote carrying ZZ complement and this zygote develops in to male.
Fertilization of an egg with W chromosome by a sperm with Z chromosomes. This zygote develops in to female.
