What is divergent evolution? Explain this with reference to the forelimbs of Cheetah and whales.

The same structure developed along different directions due to adaptations to different needs is called divergent evolution.
Forelimbs of cheetah and whales are meant for fast running and swimming as two different functions to perform respectively, but they have similar anatomical structure such as humerus, radius, ulna, carpals, metacarpals and phalanges in their forelimbs.
