Biomagnification or Biological magnification is defined as increase in concentration of toxicants at successive tropic levels
Toxic substances cannot be matabolised or excreted, therefore they get accumulated in an organism and passed onto higher tropic levels.
Effects of mercury and DDT accumulation in birds : Calcium metabolism in birds is disturbed which results in thinning of eggshell. This leads to decline in bird population.
