If tension in a wire is made four times,...

If tension in a wire is made four times, then what will be the change in speed of wave propagationg in it ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Wave speed in the wire is `v= sqrt ((T)/(mu))`
`therefore v prop sqrtT implies (v _(1))/(v _(2)) = sqrt ((T _(1))/(T _(2)))`
`therefore (v _(1))/(v _(2)) = sqrt ((T _(1))/( 4 T _(1)) implies v _(2) = 2v _(1)`
`therefore ` Wave speed will become doubled.
