A contract on construction job specifies a penalty for delay of completion beyond a certain date as follows : Rs 200 for the first day . Rs 250 for the second day , Rs 300 for the third day , etc. the penalty for each succeeding day being Rs50 more than for the preceding day. A factory makes tennis rackets and cricket bats. A tennis racket takes 1.5 hours of machine time and 3 hours of craftman's time in its making while a cricket bat takes 3 hour of machine time and 1 hour or craftman's time. In a day, the factory has the availability of not more than 42 hours of machine time and 24 hours of craftsman's time. (i) What number of rackets and bats must be made if the factory is to work at full capacity? (ii) If the profit on a racket and on a bat is Rs. 20 and Rs. 10 respectively, find the maximum profit of the factory when it works at full capacity.

Amit is a domestic help (or maid) working at Mr Dave's house. One day Amit complained to Mr Dave that he had difficulty in reading the letter which he had received from his parents. Mr Dave, realising that Amit had an eye defect, took him to an eye specialist doctor. The doctor tested his eyes carefully and told Amit to wear spectacles containing certain type of lenses having specified power. Mr Dave bought the required spectacles for Amit. By wearing this spectacle, Amit could read and write easily. He was very happy and thanked Mr Dave. What could be the two possible reasons responsible for his eye defect? What type of lenses do you think the doctor recommended for Amit's spectacles ?

A factory manufactures two types of screws, A and B. Each type of screw requires the use of two machines, an automatic and a hand operated. It takes 4 minutes on the automatic and 6 minutes on hand operated machines to manufacture a package of screws A, while it takes 6 minutes on automatic and 3 minutes on the hand operated machines to manufacture a package of screws B. Each machine is available for at the most 4 hours on any day. The manufacturer can sell a package of screws A at a profit of Rs. 7 and screws B at a profit of Rs. 10. Assuming that he can sell all the screws he manufactures, how many packages of each type should the factory owner produce in a day in order to maximise his profit ? Determine the maximum profit.

A cottage industry manufactures pedestal lamps and wooden shades, each requiring the use of a grinding/cutting machine and a sprayer. It takes 2 hours on grinding/cutting machine and 3 hours on the sprayer to manufacture a pedestal lamp. It takes 1 hour on the grinding/cutting machine and 2 hours on the sprayer to manufacture a shade. On any day, the sprayer is available for at the most 20 hours and the grinding/cutting machine for at the most 12 hours. The profit from the sale of a lamp is Rs. 5 and that from a shade is Rs. 3. Assuming that the manufacturer can sell all the lamps and shades that he produces, how should he schedule his daily production in order to maximise his profit ?

Einstein in 1905 proppunded the special theory of relativity and in 1915 proposed the general theory of relativity. The special theory deals with inertial frames of reference. The general theory of relativity deals with problems in which one frame of reference. He assumed that fixed frame is accelerated w.r.t. another frame of reference of reference cannot be located. Postulated of special theory of realtivity ● The laws of physics have the same form in all inertial systems. ● The velocity light in empty space is a unicersal constant the same for all observers. ● Einstein proved the following facts based on his theory of special relativity. Let v be the velocity of the speceship w.r.t a given frame of reference. The obserations are made by an observer in that reference frame. ● All clocks on the spaceship wil go slow by a factor sqrt(1-v^(2)//c^(2)) ● All objects on the spaceship will have contracted in length by a factor sqrt(1-v^(2)//c^(2)) ● The mass of the spaceship increases by a factor sqrt(1-v^(2)//c^(2)) ● Mass and energy are interconvertable E = mc^(2) The speed of a meterial object can never exceed the velocity of light. ● If two objects A and B are moving with velocity u and v w.r.t each other along the x -axis, the relative velocity of A w.r.t. B = (u-v)/(1-uv//v^(2)) A stationary body explodes into two fragments each of rest mass 1 kg that move apart at speed of 0.6c relative to the original body. The rest mass of the original body is -

Rohit is a car driver working for Mr Joshi. One day Rohit complained that he had difficulty in driving the car because he could not see the distant traffic clearly though he could see the nearby objects clearly. Mr Joshi took Rohit to an eye hospital. The eye specialist doctor checked and tested his eyes with various machines and gave him the name and power of the lenses to be worn as spectacles. Mr Joshi paid for the required spectacles for the driver. By wearing these spectacles, the driver could now see even the distant vehicles and people on the road clearly. He thanked Mr Joshi for this. What could be the two possible reasons for his eye defect? What type of lenses do you think the doctor recommended for Rohit's spectacles ?
