State the laws of refraction of light. I...

State the laws of refraction of light. If the speed of light in vacuum is `3xx10^(8)`m/s find the speed of light in a medium of absolue refractive index 1.5.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

There are two laws of refraction.
Given: Speed of light in vascuum `=3xx10^(8)m//s`
Refractive index of the medium
`=` Speed of light in vacuum /speed of light medium.
or `1.5=3xx10^(8)//v`
or `v=3xx10^(8)//1.5=2xx10^(8)m/s`
Hence the speed of light in the medium of refractive index 1.5 is `2xx10^(8)` m/s
