How do we perceive different colours?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The retina is lined with a variety of light sensing cells which are rod shaped and cone shaped. While the rods on the retina are sensitive to the intensity of light, they cannot distinguish between lights of different colours. On the other hand, the cones are the colour-sensing cells of the retina. When light of a certain colour enters the eye and strikes the cones of the retina, an electrical impulse is sent along nerves to the brain which enables us to identify the colour.
