Fill in the blanks and explain the statements with reasoning :
If the height of the orbit of a satellite from the earth's surface is increased , the tangential velocity of the satellite will…………..

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Tangential velocity of the satellite is given by the formula,
`v_(c)=sqrt((GM)/(R+h))`
Where, G = Gravitational constant,
M= Mass of the earth
R = Radius of the earth,
h = Height of the satellite above the earth's surface.
This implies velocity of the satellite,
`v_(c)prop(1)/sqrt(R+h)`
Hence , when height of the orbit of the satellite is increased , its tangential velocity decreases.
