On what basis and how are the orbits of artificial stellites classified?

Depending on the height of the satellite 's orbit above the earth's surface , the satellite orbits are classified as below :
(a) If the height of the stellite 's orbit above the earth's surface is greater than or equal to 35780 km , the orbit is called high earth orbit.
(b) A satellite is revolving in such orbits takes around 24 hours to complete one revolution, almost same as duration of one rotation of the earth.
(c) If the satellite is revolving in a high earth orbit parallel to the equator, then its time for one revolution around the earth is same as that of rotation of earth . As a result , the satellite appears to be stationary with respect to the earth. Therefore , these satellites are called geosynchronous satellites.
(d) Being geosychronous ,these satellites can observe a specific region on the earth continuously . Hence , they can be used for carrying signals for telephone , television etc. and also in the applications like meteorology .
