i. The laws enacted for conservation of environment are-Forest Conservation Act, 1980, Environmental Protection Act, 1986.
ii. Forest Conservation Act, 1980`:`
According to this law, the land reserved for forest conservation has been prohibited to use for any other purpose.
e.g. For mining activities,it is essential to obtain the permission of the central goverment, failing which the defaulter is entitled to imprisonment for 15 days.
iii. Environment Protection Act, 1986 `: `
The main objective of this Act is the protection and improvement of the environment and prevention of hazards to human beings, other living creatures , plants and property.It safefaurds the environment from pollution and punishes persons or institutes causing harm to the environment. Any person or factory is for bidden by this Act, from releasing pollutants in the atmosphere beyond a certain permissible limit. If a person breaks this rule, he is entitled for either five years of imprisonment or a fine of upto 1 lakh.
iv. In 2010, National Green Tribunal has been established to effectively implement the environment related laws and handle environment disputes.
