Take the pictures of human body and Amoeba and try to take an imaginary section through specific plane of their bodies so as to get two equal halves. What did you observe ?

i.Asymmetrical body: In this type of symmetry, there is no such imaginary axis of the body through which we can get two equal halves. e.g. Amoeba, Paramoecium, some sponges.
ii. Radial symmetry: In this type of symmetry, if an imaginary cut passes through the central axis of any plane of the body, it gives two equal halves, e.g. Starfish. In starfish, there are five different planes passing through the central axis of the body, through which we can get two equal halves.

Apparatus: Two test tubes, bent tube, rubber cork, burner, etc. Chemicals: Calcium carbonate, freshly prepared lime water. Procedure: Take some calcium carbonate in a test tube. Fit a bent tube to this test tube with the help of a rubber cork. Insert the other end of the bent tube in the freshly prepared lime water taken in the other test tube. Heat the powdered calcium carbonate in the first test tube strongly. What will you observe?

To charge an object by induction. : Rub a comb or a balloon on your hair. As shown in the picture 8.4 on page 54 of your textbook, take the comb near a thin trickle of water from a tap what happes. Now draw the comb away from the trcikle and observe what happens. : Mark your observation with a tick. : When the charged comb is brought close to the flowing water, water gets attracted/repelled/remains as it was. : when the charged comb is taken away from the flowing water, it gets attracted.repelled/remains as it was initially.

Let’s try this : Fix a bar magnet to a stand as shown in the figure. Let it become steady. Take another bar magnet near the hanging bar magnet. Observe what happens. Do the same again and again, exchanging the ends of a magnet. What do you see ?

Let’s try this : Take a bar magnet that can be cut with scissors or a knife. Take iron filings on a sheet of paper and place the magnet on it. Most of the iron filings will be seen to stick to its poles. Now cut the magnet into two pieces as shown in the picture and place those pieces on iron filings. Pick up each piece and observe. What do you find ?

Answer the following questions : Take two coils of about 50 turns. Insert them over a nonconducting cylindrical roll as shown in fig. A thick paper roll can be used . Connect coil 1 to a battery with a plug key k. Connect coil 2 to a galvanometer G. plug the key and observe the deflection in the galvanometer. Unplug the key and again observe the deflection. Note ( your observations. What conclusions do you draw from these observations?
