Plant tissue culture is the 'ex vivo' growth of cells or tissues excised from source plant, in an aseptic and nutrient-rich medium.
ii. By using tissue culture technique, a complete organism can be developed from a single cell/tissue.
iii. A liquid, solid or gel-like medium prepared from agar is used to supply nutrients and energy necessary for tissue culture.
iv. By using this technique improved varieties of plants can be produced. (e.g. pest resistant crops, high yielding crops, etc.)
v. The different processes involved in tissue culture technique are primary treatment, reproduction/multiplication, shooting and rooting, primary hardening and secondary hardening.
