Is it possible to produce hydrogen by decomposition of water by means of heat, electricity or light?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

i. It is not possible to produce hydrogen by decomposition of pure water by heat or light energy.
ii . But when few drops of acid are added to pure water then it is possible to decompose such water by passing electric current through it.
iii. Thus, it is possible to produce hydrogen by decomposition of water by using electricity. This process is known as electrolysis.
