What causes the existence of very large number of carbon compunds?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The unique property of carbon atom to form covalent bonds with other carbon atoms giving rise to extremely big molecules is called catenation
ii. The covalent bond between two carbon atoms is strong and stable. This is the reason carbon is bestowed with catenation power.
iii. Due to this, the compounds formed may have long straight chains of carbon.
Hence, carbon atoms come together in a lage number to form extremely big molecules.
