What is the relationship between cell division and formation of new organism of same species by earlier existing organism ?

a. Cell division by mitosis increases the number of cells. Since the cell copies its DNA before division , each daughter cell receive the same genetic material.
b. Thus, single celled organisms can reproduce asexually by mitosis to form new organisms of the same species.
c. In case of multicellular organisms undergoing sexual reproduction, the number of chromososmes in the parent cell is reduced to half by meiosis in order to form gametes.
d. These gametes unite on fertilization to form a zygote that contains the same chromosome number as that of the parents.
e. A new organism similar to the earlier existing one ( parent ) is formed by development of zygote. The zygote develops by undergoing cell division by mitosis.
Thus, cell division is the basis of all forms of reproduction.
