Account for the following
Aromatic amines are weaker bases than aliphatic amines.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The basic character of amines is due to presence of a lone pair of electrons on N-atom. Aromatic amines have resonance structure and lone pair of electrons becomes less available for co-ordination. No such resonance exists in aliphatic amines and lone pair is easily available. Hence aromatic amines are weaker bases than aliphatic amines.
