Identify the correct statement for the adsorption of a real gas on charcoal at 1 atm, `15^@C`.

A

Decrease in pressure increases the extent of adsorption

B

Gases which are easily liquefiable, are adsorbed more in quantity

C

Gases which have a behaviour similar to an inert gas are adsorbed more

D

None of these

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The amount of gas adsorbed by a solid depends on the nature of gas. In general , more easily liquefiable gases (i.e., higher critical temperature) are readily adsorbed as van der Waals. forces are stronger near the critical temperature .
