What significant figures signify?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The significant figures is defined the figure in a given number which can be realised . For example, if the radius measured by screw gauge is 3.423 cm, the number of significant figures in the measurement is 4. Greater is the number of significant figures in a measurement, smaller is the percentage error. Hence, it should be remembered that the limit of accuracy of a measuring instrument is equal to the least count of the instrument.
