Two balls have the same size but one is ...

Two balls have the same size but one is denser than the other. Assume the air resistance to be same on each, show that when they are released simultaneously from the same height, the heavier ball will reach the ground first.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The retarding force F and g will be same for both balls. Retarding acceleration `=F//mass` . In case of denser ball the retarding acceleration will be less. Thus, the net downward acceleration equal to `(g = F//mass)` will be greater and so it will reach the ground first.
