In human females menstruation cycle lasts till 28 to 29 days. In proliferative phase, under the effect of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), primary follicles grow and convert into mature graafian follicle. This proliferative phase lasts for 14 days.
The secretion of gonadotrophins (LH and FSH) increase gradually during the follicular phase and stimulate follicular development as well as secretion of estrogens by the growing follicles. Both LH and FSH attain peak level in the middle of cycle (about 14th day).
