Find the molar heat capacity in a process of a diatomic gas if it does a work of `Q/4` when a heat of Q is supplied to it

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`dU=C_(v)dT=[5/2R] (or) dT= (2dU)/(5R)` from first law of thermodynamics `dU=dQ-dW=Q-Q/4=(3Q)/4` , Now molar heat capacity
`C=(dQ)/(dT)=(Qxx5R)/(2(dU))= (5RQ)/(2[(3Q)/4])=10/3R`

Define molar specific heat capacity .

The molar heat capacity of water at constant pressure, C, is 75 JK^(-1) mol^(-1) . When 1.0KJ of heat is supplied to 100g of water which is free to expand, the increase in temperature of water is :

For an ideal gas a) The change in internal energy in a constant pressure process from temperature T_(1) to T_(2) is equal to nC_(v) (T‌_(2)-T_(1)) , where Cv is the molar heat capacity at constant volume and n is the number of moles of the gas b) The change in internal energy of the gas and the work done by the gas are equal in magnitude in an adiabatic process c) The internal energy does not change in an isothermal process d) No heat is added or removed in an adiabatic process

The molar heat capacity for an ideal gas a) is zero for an adiabatic process b) is infinite for an isothermal process c) depends only on the nature of the gas for a process in which either volume or pressure is constant d) is equal to the product of the molecular weight and specific heat capacity for any process

A perfect gas undergoes the following three separate and distinct process to execute a cycle i)constant volume process during which 80 kJ of heat is supplied to the gas. ii) constant pressure process during which 85 kJ of heat is lost to the surroundings and 20 kJ of work is done on it. iii) adiablatic process which restores the gas back to its initial stage. Evaluate the work done during adiabatic process and the value of internal energy at all the state points if initially its value is 95 kJ.
