The series corresponding to minimum wave...

The series corresponding to minimum wavelength transition in H atom ......

A

Balmer

B

Lyman

C

Paschen

D

Brackett

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Lyman series is obtained when an electron jumps to the first orbit (n = 1) from any outer orbit `(n_(2)=2,3,4...)`
`(1)/(lambda)=Rz[(1)/(n_(1)^(2))-(1)/(n_(2)^(2))]`
For H, Z = 1 and R is the Rydberg.s constant `R= 1.097 xx 10^(7) m^(-1)` . In this series the shortest wavelength or the limit of this series for `n_(1)=1 and n_(2), =oo lambda=911 Å`
