Transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of a flower is called pollination. Grass plants generally have small , inconspicuous flowers while plants belonging to many angiosperm bear conspicuous coloured flowers. What are the salient features present in these two groups for effective pollination?

Transfer of pollen grains from anther to the stigma of flower is called pollination. Grass plants generally have small inconspicuous flowers while plants belonging to many angiosperm families bearing conspicuous coloured flowers. Comment on the type of pollinatin taking place in these two groups.

Assertion: To compensate the uncertainties and associated loss of pollen grains during pollination by abiotic agents, the flowers produce enormous amount of pollen when compared to the number of ovules available for pollination. Reason: Pollen grains coming in contact with the stigma is a chance factor in both wind and water pollination.
