Calculate the equivalent weight of ferro...

Calculate the equivalent weight of ferrous sulphate (a) as salt and (b) as reductant.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Formula weight of ferrous sulphate, `FeSO_(4)`=56+32+64-152
(a) As salt, number of electrons transferred in the formation of salt is 2 Equivalent weight `=(152)/(2)=76`
(b) As reductant, number of electrons transferred `Fe^(2+)toFe^(3+)` is 1 Equivalent weight =152
