1.0 k-mol of a sample of helium gas is put through the cycle of operations shown in figure. BC is an isothermal process and `p_A=1.00 atm`, `V_A=22.4m^3`, `p_B=2.00atm`. What are `T_A`, `T_B` and `V_C`?

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C, D

`T_A=(p_AV_A)/(nR)=((1.013xx10^5)(22.4))/((10^3)(8.31))`
`=273K`
Along path AB
V= constant
`:.` `Tpropp`
p is doubled. So, T is also doubled.
`:.` `T_B=2T_A=546K`.
Further, `T_B=T_C`
`:.` `p_BV_B=p_CV_C`
`:.` `V_C=((p_B)(V_A))/((p_A))=((2)(22.4))/(1)`
`=44.8m^3`
