The potentiometer wire AB is 600 cm long...

The potentiometer wire `AB` is `600` cm long.
a. At what distance from A should be jockey `J` touch the wire to get zero deflection i the galvanometer.
b. If the jockey touches the wire at a distance `560 cm` from A, what will be the current through the galvanometer.

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C

a. `V_(AJ)=E/2` or emf of lower battery
`: iR_(AJ)=E/2`
or `(E/(15r+r))((15r)/600)(l)=E/2`
Solving this equation we get
`l=320 cm`
b. Resistance of `56 cm=((15r)/600)(560)`
`=14r`
Now the circuit is as under

Applyign loop law in upper loop we have
`E-14r(i_1-i_2)-i_1r-i_1r=0`...........i
Applying loop lw in lower law loop we have
`-E/2-i_2r+(i_1-i_2)(14r)=0`...........ii
Solving these two equation
we get, `i_2=(3E)/(22r)`
